Lever Sullivan and Friends KidSport Charity Golf Tournament raised
a record high amount of $25,000.00. Today, August, 12, Steve Sullivan,
presented the cheque to KidSport and said funds from next year's
tournament will again go to KidSport. "When a group of organizers
also works hard to see the golf tournament succeed, I have no problem
giving the money to KidSport," stated Steve Sullivan, KidSport
Athlete Ambassador who plays right wing with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Over 140 golfers enjoyed four days of competition
last month at Spruce Needles Golf Course and the Hollinger Golf
Club. An evening auction brought in over $16,000.00. Many sponsors
donated items for the auction, but the big ticket items were four
hockey trips, donated by Steve himself and Air Ontario Jazz. The
hockey games will feature Sullivan and the Chicago Blackhawks.
This was the 13th year the golf tournament has
helped raised money for local charities. "My dad (Kenn) does
a lot of work for it, but it's really the 144 or 150 golfers who
come out every year and support it that make it the well-oiled machine
it is now," commented Sullivan. "Being a hometown boy,
a lot of kids look up to me and I enjoy working with KidSport a
lot."
"KidSport completed its first year of operation
in June," said Jerry Corriveau, President of the local chapter,
and "so far we've assited over sixty kids so they can play
in local organized sports."
Also, today, the provincial government announced
it will invest $65,000.00 in the organization. In a news release
from the office of the Minister of Northern Development and Mines,
Jim Wilson says the money, through the Ontario Trillium Foundation
"will ensure a better quality of life for children of low income
families."
In Cooperation with Sport Alliance of Ontario,
the $65,000 will be delivered to KidSport Timmins over two years
to assist with the start-up and administration of an organization
that enables children from low-income families to participate in
their chosen sport.
"KidSport Timmins is much appreciative of
this funding from the Ontario government which will assist our organziation
in greatly improving the recreational opportunities available to
many young children," said Corriveau.
KidSport Timmins will be operating its office
out of the new Timmins Family YMCA facility on Poplar Street.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency
of the Ministry of Culture, receives annually $100 million of government
funding generated through Ontario's charity casino initiative. The
Foundation provides grants to eligible charitable and not-for-profit
organizations in the arts, culture, sports, recreation, environment
and social service sectors.

Lever/Sullivan & Friends KidSport Tournament - Sponsorship Package
The
Event Since 1990, Don Lever and Steve Sullivan have hosted a Charity
Golf Tournament in the Timmins community. Each year, they designate a local charity
to be the recipients for the dollars generated by the Tournament. The Tournament
was established to bring the community together to have fun, to proudly invite
celebrities to our hometown, and to assist our local charities. In
1990 and 1991, The Starlight Foundation was the designated charity and they received
over $20,000 of proceeds from the Golf Tournament. From 1992 - 2002, the Porcupine
United Way was the designated charity, receiving over $100,000. This
year, the designated charity is KidSport Timmins, a local charity whose mandate
is to enable local kids facing economic barriers to play sports by subsidizing
registration and/or equipment costs. Sponsorship
